Dry and hang up your washable diapers

1. Drying methods

Air drying (ideal method)

Natural drying respects the fibers, protects the PUL, and reduces odors. For gentle bleaching, expose the inserts to moderate sunlight (short, indirect exposure for PUL).

Drying on a radiator: with caution

Direct contact with a heat source can weaken the elastic bands.

MBDC tip: place a towel between the towel and the towel to diffuse the heat.

Tumble dryer: use responsibly

  • low temperature mode only;
  • Bamboo or modal inserts tolerate it well;
  • PUL panties should always be air-dried.

Proximity to a heater or stove

Only possible at a distance ( minimum 1 meter ) to avoid any distortion.

2. Drying washable nappies in winter

  • priority given to ventilation (mechanical ventilation or a half-open window);
  • place the clothesline in a draft;
  • turn the inserts over after a few hours;
  • space out the layers to avoid stagnant moisture;
  • Option: 10 minutes in a gentle dryer to prime.

If an odor appears after drying, consult: The guide to eliminating odors in washable nappies .

3. Precautions and common mistakes

Never hang by the elastic bands

The weight of a wet diaper can loosen the elastics and reduce their effectiveness.

Adjust according to the type of layer

  • TE2 and PUL panties → open air;
  • absorbent inserts → air dry or gentle tumble dryer;
  • Thick nighttime diapers → pre-drying recommended.

Beware of overheating

Excessive heat can blister the PUL and reduce the lifespan of the diaper.

Stagnant moisture = odors

If drying takes longer than 24–36 hours, consider a thorough cleaning: See the cleaning protocol .
